The weather along the Front Range of Colorado is predictably unpredictable. We have beautiful sunny days and low humidity so much of the time. This past week, however, we were slammed with some of the most violent weather I've ever experienced. The day after we were hit with thunderstorms, hail, and A TORNADO, the air still contained a lot of moisture; this photo was taken that day to show the layers of atmosphere as the sun was setting.

The challenge for you for this month is to observe and explore how the atmosphere affects your palette - lighter/grayer/less saturation farther away, and darker/brighter/more saturation close up. Use the challenge photo, or paint your own world. I look forward to seeing your paintings!
Remember to follow the "Rules of the Road" on the right and send me your images as an attachment to your email. The July challenge will be posted on Sunday, July 15, 2012. Thanks to everyone who participates, and good luck. Happy Painting!
